MyPlus, provider of one of the UK’s leading online advisory services in graduate recruitment for disabled students, MyPlus Students’ Club, has launched a Toolkit for University Careers Advisers.
The toolkit provides specialist information, resources and guidance for University staff who are supporting the 13% of disabled undergraduate students as they search for placements, internships and graduate roles.
Helen Cooke Founder and Director of MyPlus said “It is our collective responsibility to provide disabled students with the right advice, resources and access to disability confident employers so that they can maximise their chances of successful employment when they graduate. The MyPlus Students’ Club Toolkit for Careers Advisers provides a library of resources to provide this support, backed up by the resources available online at www.myplusstudentsclub.com “.
The MyPlus Students’ Club Toolkit for University Careers Advisers is divided into four areas covering Why Disability Matters, Understanding Disability, Challenges Facing Disabled Students and Conversation Cards that can be used to provide guidance and support to students on common issues faced during the recruitment process such as how to disclose a disability and how to request adjustments.
The Toolkit has been positively received with Claire Hudson, Careers Adviser at Cardiff University saying “As a Careers Adviser with over twenty years’ experience and someone who currently works at Cardiff University with a lead for Dyslexia and Disability, I have found the tool kit extremely valuable in discussing a range of employment issues with my students. They can be used within a workshop situation or within an individual setting to both encourage open discussions and to also demonstrate to student’s positive approaches and solutions to managing any disability.”
