At MyPlus, we describe a ‘Disability Inclusive’ organisation as:
‘A progressive organisation with the confidence and knowledge to realise new possibilities by creating a mindset, supported by processes and policies, that enables them to unlock the business, social and economic value of hiring and supporting employees with disabilities’.
People are an organisations most valuable asset and business success is dependent on the ability to include and harness the unique talents of everyone; and this obviously includes those who have a disability.
With 1 in 3 of us touched by disability, disability has to be a core element of an organisation’s agenda, not least that research has shown that diverse perspectives drive better business outcomes, and that when people feel a sense of belonging at work, they are healthier and more engaged.
The approach we take is ‘business as usual’, working with organisations to ensure that attracting, recruiting, supporting and developing individuals with disabilities is the norm as opposed to something ‘extra’ or an ‘add on’.
