MyPlus Services: 6 Steps to Disability Confidence
Step 2: Strategy

Developing your disability strategy

Building the capability to become Disability Confident through the development of strategy, operations and reputation

Green line

Progress in the disability space has typically been slow due, in part, to organisations not being clear about what they want to achieve and how they will achieve it. Instead a ‘scatter gun’ or ‘spray and pray’ approach is taken with a number of ‘initiatives’ being trialed. When these initiatives don’t work and/or aren’t sustainable or effective organisations, not surprisingly, give up.

To make real, sustainable progress organisations need to be clear about what it means to them to be a ‘disability confident’ organisation. In addition, there needs to be clarity about where the organisation currently is on their journey and where they want to go; there needs to be clear goals and timelines; measures; accountability; and reporting and resources.

There also needs to be a very real understanding of what the potential barriers and challenges will be to achieving success and how these will be addressed.
